What are facial spider veins?
Spider veins, also known as telangiectasias, are small dilated blood vessels visible on the surface of the skin. In women, they most commonly appear on the nose, cheeks, and chin—sometimes giving the appearance of diffuse redness or a visible vascular network that can affect overall skin tone uniformity.
These dilated vessels form when the vascular wall loses its elasticity, allowing the vessel to expand and become visible under the skin. Once formed, they do not disappear on their own—targeted medical treatments are required to reduce their appearance.
Although spider veins are generally benign, they can have a significant aesthetic impact. Laser and light-based medical approaches effectively reduce their visibility and progressively improve skin tone uniformity.
Addressed Concerns
- Genetic predisposition
- Cumulative sun exposure
- Hormonal changes
- Skin aging
- Inflammatory conditions such as rosacea
- Alcohol and extreme temperature fluctuations

Two complementary medical approaches, each tailored to specific vessel types and profiles.
Nd:YAG laser
TARGETED TREATMENT OF VISIBLE VESSELS
The Nd:YAG laser is particularly effective for deeper or well-defined vessels. Its energy is selectively absorbed by hemoglobin, allowing precise targeting of visible capillaries while preserving surrounding tissues.
- Deeper or thicker vessels
- Capillaries resistant to other treatments
- Precise and localized targeting
IPL – Intense Pulsed Light
PHOTOREJUVENATION AND DIFFUSE REDNESS
IPL is a versatile technology that uses broad-spectrum light to simultaneously treat diffuse redness, certain superficial capillaries, and associated signs of photoaging.
- Widespread diffuse redness
- Superficial capillaries and pigment spots
- Overall improvement in skin tone uniformity
Our Recommendation
Choosing the most appropriate approach
The choice between the Nd:YAG laser and IPL depends on several factors that our physicians will evaluate during your free consultation:
The size and depth of the vessels to be treated
Their location on the face
The presence of associated diffuse redness
Your phototype and skin sensitivity
Desired recovery time
In some cases, a combination of both technologies can offer more comprehensive results—the Nd:YAG laser targeting defined vessels and IPL treating associated diffuse redness. A medical evaluation is essential to recommend the optimal approach.

Nd:YAG laser
① How It Works
The Nd:YAG laser emits a wavelength that is selectively absorbed by the oxyhemoglobin contained in the targeted blood vessels. This absorption generates heat inside the vessel, causing controlled coagulation of its wall and triggering its gradual closure.
The treated vein progressively stops carrying blood and is naturally reabsorbed by the body over the following weeks. Surrounding skin tissue is preserved throughout the treatment. The Nd:YAG laser is particularly effective for deeper or thicker vessels that do not respond as well to pulsed light technologies.

Discomfort
Low to moderate
Session
1 to 3 recommanded
② What to Expect
A numbing cream can be applied depending on the area being treated. The procedure lasts 20 to 40 minutes depending on the number and size of the vessels. A snapping sensation may be felt during pulses. Slight redness and minor bruising may occur after treatment and usually resolve within a few days. The number of sessions depends on the extent of the vessels and individual response.
Ideal for:
- Deep or well-defined vessels
- Thick capillaries on the nose and cheeks
- Resistant spider veins
- Targeted and localized treatment
③ Results
Results develop gradually over several weeks to months as new collagen forms.
Treated vessels fade gradually over 4 to 8 weeks
SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION IN VISIBLE CAPILLARIES
IPL – Intense Pulsed Light
① How It Works
IPL uses broad-spectrum pulsed light that is selectively absorbed by vascular and pigment targets responsible for diffuse redness and superficial capillaries. Unlike single-wavelength Nd:YAG lasers, IPL delivers multiple wavelengths simultaneously—making it particularly effective for patients presenting with diffuse redness, superficial capillaries, and signs of photoaging all at once.
Light energy can also help stimulate collagen and elastin production, improving overall skin tone quality over multiple sessions.

② What to Expect
Sessions last 20 to 45 minutes. A mild sensation of heat and brief snapping feelings may be experienced during pulses. Mild post-treatment redness is possible and resolves within a few hours.
A series of 3 to 5 sessions is generally recommended for optimal results. Sun avoidance and sun protection are essential before and after each session.
Ideal for:
- Widespread diffuse redness
- Superficial capillaries combined with dark spots
- Fair to medium skin phototypes
- Overall improvement in skin tone uniformity

Results develop progressively over several weeks
