What are spider veins in men?
Facial spider veins affect many men, although they consult less frequently for this reason. In male patients, spider veins most often appear on the nose, cheeks, and chin—often associated with years of unprotected sun exposure, rosacea, or regular alcohol consumption.
These small, dilated blood vessels visible on the skin's surface can create an appearance of persistent redness or a visible vascular network that can affect skin tone and self-confidence in professional and social settings.
In men, thicker and more sebaceous skin can alter how vessels respond to triggers and treatments—so parameters are systematically adapted by our physicians to ensure optimal effectiveness.
Once formed, dilated vessels do not regress spontaneously—targeted medical treatments are necessary to progressively and durably reduce their appearance.
Addressed Concerns
- Cumulative unprotected sun exposure
- Genetic predisposition
- Rosacea
- Regular alcohol consumption
- Skin aging
- Extreme temperature variations
Treatment options
Treatment options for facial spider veins in men
Two complementary medical approaches adapted to male skin, each targeting specific types of vessels.
Nd:YAG laser
TARGETED TREATMENT OF VISIBLE VESSELS
The Nd:YAG laser is particularly effective for deeper or well-defined vessels. For male patients, parameters are adapted to thicker skin to ensure effective absorption and optimal results.
- Deep or well-defined vessels
- Thick capillaries on men's nose and cheeks
- Precise and localized targeting
IPL – Intense Pulsed Light
PHOTOREJUVENATION AND DIFFUSE REDNESS
IPL simultaneously treats diffuse redness, superficial capillaries, and sun damage—an option particularly suited for men presenting extensive redness combined with signs of photoaging.
- Diffuse redness and sun damage
- Superficial capillaries and sunspots
- Overall improvement in skin tone
Our Recommendation
Choosing the most appropriate approach
The choice between the Nd:YAG laser and IPL depends on several factors that our physicians will evaluate during your free consultation:
The size and depth of the vessels to be treated
Their location on the face
The presence of associated diffuse redness
Your phototype and skin sensitivity
Desired recovery time
For male patients, the parameters of both technologies are adapted to account for thicker skin. In some cases, a combination of both approaches can offer more comprehensive results. A medical evaluation is essential.

Nd:YAG laser
① How It Works
The Nd:YAG laser emits a wavelength selectively absorbed by oxyhemoglobin in targeted vessels. This absorption generates heat, causing controlled coagulation of the vascular wall and triggering the progressive closure of the vessel. The treated vein is then naturally reabsorbed by the body.
For male patients, parameters are adapted to account for generally thicker skin—ensuring energy effectively penetrates to deeper vessels. Male patients who shave must avoid shaving the treated areas during the recovery period.

② What to Expect
Numbing cream possible depending on the area. 20 to 40 min procedure. Snapping sensation possible. Slight redness and minor bruising resolved in a few days. Patients who shave should avoid shaving during recovery.
Ideal for:
- Deep or well-defined vessels
- Thick capillaries on men's nose and cheeks
- Resistant spider veins
- Precise and localized treatment
③ Results
Results develop progressively over several weeks to months.
Vessels fade progressively over 4 to 8 weeks
Significant reduction in visible capillaries generally observed after 1 to 3 sessions
IPL – Intense Pulsed Light
① How It Works
IPL uses broad-spectrum pulsed light selectively absorbed by vascular and pigment targets. For male patients whose redness is often associated with years of sun damage accumulated without protection, IPL is particularly suitable—simultaneously treating diffuse redness, superficial capillaries, and sunspots.
For male patients, parameters are adjusted to account for thicker skin to ensure optimal penetration and efficacy.

② What to Expect
20 to 45 min sessions. Warmth sensation and mild snapping. Light redness resolving in a few hours. Patients who shave should avoid shaving treated areas for 24 hours. Recommended series of 3 to 5 sessions. Strict sun protection essential.
Ideal for:
- Diffuse redness with sun damage
- Light to medium male phototypes
- Superficial capillaries and sunspots
- Overall improvement in skin tone uniformity
